Plastic Picnic Live at Elbo Room w/ The Y Axes and Laureline. $10 / 8:30pm Doors PLASTIC PICNIC Plastic Picnic is a Brooklyn based band comprised of four pacific northwest transplants. the duos – Lute and Panerio, and Hunt and Taylor – developed their styles playing in separate Seattle projects. it wasn’t until moving east that the pairs were brought together by a mutual friend. instantly compatible, the group shared a taste for lyrically forthright indie rock paired with driving 80's rhythms, sweetly spun melodies and atmospheric synth and guitar work. Described as a "indie post rock project soundtracking a john hughes movie", plastic picnic achieves the cinematic pop-nostalgia of the 1980's while juxtaposing it with their tasteful appreciation for modern guitar records and analog synthesizers. THE Y AXES The Y Axes are a San Francisco-based indie outfit who play a unique blend of dreamy, synth-glossed pop and rhythmically muscular rock. Having initially formed as a recording project by vocalist Alexi Rose Belchere and guitarist Devin Nelson, the duo decided to take on the project full time after premiering a set of songs at their space and prom-themed joint birthday party in July 2011. Their lineup completed by bassist Jack Sundquist and drummer Paul Conroy, The Y Axes collaborate to create energetic and hard-hitting pop with intricate instrumentations and ethereal vocal melodies that can stick in your mind for weeks. Their latest album, Umbra, was produced by Aaron Hellam (Finish Ticket, Rin Tin Tiger, Black Map, etc.) at Hellam Sound and released November 26. LAURELINE Laureline, a relatively recently-formed Los Angeles four-piece band who are Chris Rasmussen, Ciera Bardowell, Marian Nutley, and Nico Hernandez. As Laureline, they’re crafting their own proprietary blend of dreamy, ethereal synth pop of the highly atmospheric persuasion. The forlorn lyrics and sweeping, airy production have a vibe of escape from love and loss, but also transcendence; it feels like there’s a happy ending waiting around a distant corner, even if this song doesn’t quite get us to it yet.
